Course joining instructions

Date and time: Saturday 14th November 2026 11am - 6pm Please get in touch by email if you would like to book, but need another date. Payment: Full payment is required at the time of booking Location: Riverside Ice and Leisure centre, CM1 1FG Parking is available but there is a pay and display on site. Previous Knowledge/Experience: Not essential, but some prior reading recommended if you have time. Age: There is no minimum or maximum age limit, but under 18 year olds must be accompanied by an adult guardian. What’s included: The latest version of the ‘RYA sea survival Manual’ and The sea survival certificate (upon successful completion of the syllabus). You will also be provided with tea coffee and water. What will I need to bring? 1. A notebook and pens to make notes 2. Clothing for the pool (Swimsuit or Shorts and t-shirt are fine) 3. Towel and change of clothes Course structure This is a one day course and is a mixture of Classroom and Practical inputs. 9am-midday will be classroom based and 2pm-5pm will be in the pool completing skills and drills. This course introduces the following subjects: • The Difficulties and Requirements of Survival • Actions prior to abandonment • Lifejackets, Life rafts and associated equipment • Practical Life raft and in-water drills • The Principles of Survival, Aids to Location and Survival Ailments • Search and Rescue (SAR) provision for the UK Health & Fitness Declaration The RYA Basic Sea Survival course includes a practical pool session which can be physically demanding. Participants will enter the water wearing clothing and a lifejacket, practise survival techniques and take part in exercises involving a liferaft, including entering and assisting others to enter it. If you have a medical condition, disability, injury, mobility or breathing issue, concerns about water confidence, or any other circumstance that may affect your ability to participate safely, or for which you may require a reasonable adjustment, please contact us before attending.
